Ch. Akiko's Big Bear " Mellow"

Mellow was the pick pup of his litter and I had no plans to part with him but was convinced by a very nice young couple who "just had to have him" that he could have the best of both worlds as a family companion and still I would be able to show him. That never materialized however because it was never "convenient" for them to allow me to show him. When he was just over 17 months I received a call that "he was no longer needed" because the couple had a four month old baby and though the dog was wonderful with the baby they were going to be moving it would be inconvenient to have him during the move. Their question was should they bring him back as my contract stated or should they take him to the pound?
Needless to say I was in shock and assured them that he was to return to me. I held my breath until I saw that he had not been neutered and was in good health. Once the papers were signed back to me I told them what I was feeling and they were on their way. 
Though I was truly angry and heartbroken for the dog I was delighted to have him back. This occurred in early summer of '04 and by September of ' 04 Mellow was finished from the Bred by Exhibitor class and had started placing in the groups. He turned two years and achieved an evaluation of OFA Excellent with shoulders, elbows and patellae cleared, eyes Cerf'd and thyroid normal from MSU in order to receive his CHIC number. He is a wonderful dog with an awesome temperament and I am honored and thrilled to have him back. 
When Laurie Jordan-Fenner came to Massachusetts in August for some of our shows she met Mellow and showed him for me in the groups. An amazing bond was formed and the two became a wonderful team. I made the decision to send him to her for this year so that he could be given the opportunity to show to his best ability. I am always in awe when I have the opportunity to watch them in the ring. Laurie has always been a good friend and showed and loved "Sky" for the Morimotos beautifully. I am thrilled that she has the same bond with Mellow that she had with Sky. I look forward to a wonderful year for Mellow and Laurie.
